Several PBSO Deputies are being honored for saving lives in South Palm Beach County.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Four Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are among the deputies just honored by PBSO Sheriff Ric Bradshaw for lifesaving responses to South Palm Beach County incidents. While the list of award-winning deputies is long, we are focusing on those who were honored for actions taken in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Lake Worth Beach. DEPUTY SHERIFF RYAN FISHER: In early August of this year, a Road Patrol unit witnessed a vehicle suddenly veer off of Glades Road, ending up in a body of water at the entrance of the Boca West Community, with a 93 year old woman trapped inside. Seeing the car beginning to submerge, Deputy Sheriff Fisher acted instantly, diving into the dark waters and swimming some 60 feet to try to rescue her. Deputy Sheriff Fisher along with a Fire Rescue member who arrived on the scene were able to extract the woman from the car and provide her necessary medical attention while averting a potentially tragic outcome. By displaying extraordinary courage and heroism under dire circumstances, Deputy Sheriff Ryan Fisher receives a Life Saving Award. Congratulations!

DEPUTY SHERIFF JASON COKER: On June 14, 2024, deputies were called to Journey Church in Lake Worth, following a report of an unexpected childbirth. A woman, five months pregnant, had given birth in the church’s bathroom. Deputy Sheriff Jason Coker found the mother in shock and the newborn in distress, he immediately began CPR on the baby and alerted Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Both the mother and the newborn were transported to Bethesda East Hospital; the newborn, baby Peyton, born at just 23 weeks, was stabilized and was expected to survive. Sadly, after ten weeks of fighting hard and showing signs of improvement, Baby Peyton tragically passed away due to pneumonia and an infection that proved too much for her to overcome. She passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms with her father by her side. The loss has deeply affected everyone involved, bringing immense sadness and devastation to the parents. Deputy Sheriff Coker’s immediate actions at the church were crucial in giving Peyton a fighting chance. In recognition of his bravery and dedication to duty, it is recommended that Deputy Sheriff Jason Coker receive the Life Saving Award. Congratulations!

CORPORAL BRADLEY LABRYS: In early February, PBSO received a call about a 16 year old girl threatening to commit suicide by hanging herself. With assistance from the Aviation Unit, the girl was located in a wooded area behind a church. Corporal Sheriff Labrys was the first to make contact with the girl, who was unconscious and had a rope wrapped around her neck. He quickly cut the rope and with assistance from another deputy, began CPR after no pulse was detected They were able to restore the girl’s pulse and breathing and she was turned over to Fire Rescue and mad a full recovery. It was later learned the person who called in to report the incident was an adult teacher in an inappropriate relationship with the female. For his quick actions in locating the suicidal female and helping restore her breathing, Corporal Bradley Labrys receives a Life Saving Award.

DETECTIVE JAMES EVANS: In October of last year, Detective Evans was the lead investigator for two significant and comprehensive cases. In the first, Detective Evans responded to Boynton Beach Boulevard, where the driver of a Rolls Royce was shot multiple times while stopped in traffic. Within two hours of the shooting Detective Evans and his team located the suspect vehicle leaving a residence in Delay Beach. A search turned up a large sum of illegal drugs, cellular devices and several firearms, including the one used in the shooting. Five suspects, all members of the Blood gang were arrested and faced multiple charges, including attempted first degree murder. Detective Evans also led a homicide investigation in the City of Lake Worth Beach concerning a missing adult female later found deceased in a car near Lake Worth High School. He learned the victim’s husband fled the area and is working with the Department of Justice to apprehend the man. Along with his knowledge, training and experience, Detective James Evans has been named the Detective of the Year. Congratulations!
