AFTERNOON UPDATE: DELAYS CONTINUE.

UPDATE: As of 3:30 p.m., FlightAware reports that at MIA, 118 outbound and 105 inbound flights American Airlines flights logged delays. At FLL, roughly 20 inbound and outbound American Airlines flights were delayed, and at PBI, 15 American Airlines flights were delayed. We note that for FLL and PBI, the numbers represent just about all of American’s flights from and to the individual airports.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — American Airlines flights are resuming across South Florida and nationwide following a ground stop earlier Tuesday morning. As of mid-morning, Miami International, Palm Beach International, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airports all reported multi-hour delays for departing American Airlines flights.
The ground stop was requested by the airline itself. The issue was said to be “technical” but more specifics were not divulged by the airline. There was no indication that the “technical” issue was actually some sort of threat.
American Airlines is the nation’s largest airline. It is the dominant airline at MIA and a major carrier at FLL. The airline also operates several flights from PBI.
Waivers were not immediately granted for those affected by the delays on what is expected to be the busiest travel day of the year.
