Marijuana Is Still Illegal In Florida.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Lake Worth man is facing drug charges filed by the Boca Raton Police Department after officers stopped him for allegedly speeding 70 mph on Dixie Highway which is a 40 mph zone. It turns out Shane Garvey, according to police, was vaping THC oil while driving. He was taken into custody on January 21st.
In what seems to be growing problem on South Florida roads, drivers are smoking/vaping/whatevering Marijuana and Marijuana-based products, thinking either it’s legal (which it isn’t) or no one will ever know (which they will, because the odor is notable hundreds of yards away). For the Boca Raton cops who stopped Garvey for allegedly driving 70 mph in a 40 mph zone, the scent was evidence of a potential drug crime.
Wrote the arresting officer: “On 1/21/2025 at 2205 hours, I observed a grey Hyundai bearing FI tag “43CCCT” traveling at a high rate of speed S/B at 3200 N. Federal Hwy. I paced the Hyundai at 70 MPH in a 45 MPH speed zone from 3200 – 1400 N. Federal Hwy. I also observed him travel into the center median on three occasions between the 3200 and 2000 block. I then observed the Hyundai follow within inches of another vehicle at 1800 N. Federal Hwy. Based on the aforementioned traffic violations, I attempted a traffic stop on the Hyundai at 1400 N. Federal Hwy. I approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, contact with the driver, owner and sole occupant later identified by his fL DL as W/M Shane Garvey. I immediately detected the odor of freshly burnt marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle. I knew this to be marijuana based on my training and experience as a police officer. I inquired with Garvey if he smoked marijuana which he admitted he did, and admitted he had a marijuana vape device in the vehicle. Based on the plain smell of marijuana, I removed Garvey from the vehicle and detained him.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and I located a vape device in the center console cup holder which had a golden colored oil inside of it. This appeared to be marijuana THC oil based on my training and experience. Officer Rochetti read Garvey his Constitutional Rights from a pre-printed department issued Miranda Card which Garvey acknowledged he understood his rights and agreed to speak to police. BRPD dispatch advised he did not have a valid Medical Marijuana card. Garvey admitted he did not have a valid prescription and admitted to the ownership of the marijuana oil in the vape device.”

Police determined that Garvey had 10.6 grams of substance. That led to drug possession charge and a $5,000 bond set by a judge. Garvey was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released after posting bond. A court date is pending. Garvey lives in the 5000 block of Prairie Dunes Village Circle in Lake Worth. He is 22-years-old.

I think these rude photos of dogs in restaurants should be forwarded to the Health Department. That will put more pressure on those establishments to do their own policing or face heavy fines.
