SCAM ALERT: Listen To The Voicemail From Police Imposter

SCAM ALERT

Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office Warns That This Call Is Not From Them…

SCAM ALERT

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man posing as a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office employee and using the name “Michael Murphy” is a scammer. PBSO is warning residents of Palm Beach County that there is no “Michael Murphy” working for the agency, and that there is no “warrants and citations” unit calling people and asking for cash.

Investigators shared the voicemail being left by “Michael Murphy.” You can listen to it, below. It is believed that callers to the number are told that there is a warrant or citation outstanding in their name because they didn’t show up for jury duty or some other court event. To “clear” the problem, callers are told to pay — either through gift cards, Western Union, cash in the mail, crypto, or other non-refundable and often non-traceable means.

“Please remember,” says a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, “PBSO has no employee by the name of Michael Murphy, does not operate the mentioned phone number, and has no affiliation with Jury Services. The impersonator is highly persuasive, so we urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to this scam.”

PBSO says this message is part of a scam.

Scams involving people claiming to be law enforcement are nothing new, and sometimes involve AI-generated voices. PBSO and local police departments constantly remind residents that police don’t call to ask for money, there is no way to buy yourself out of an arrest warrant with a gift card, and if the police want to arrest your, they’re going to arrest — often without a head’s up. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a police representative and asking for money, PBSO says “hang up and call 911.”
