BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A West Boca Raton man convicted of money laundering late last year will spend 14 years in prison. That’s the sentence just handed down to David Bruce Cohen. Cohen, of Hyland Circle in the Boca Falls community, stole more than $1M from a woman who believed he was a licensed broker. He was not. Cohen was convicted of money laundering and two counts of grand theft over $100,000. He was originally charged with “organized scheme to defraud” but that charge was not prosecuted.

A Palm Beach County judge sentenced Cohen to 14 years in prison on Friday. He will receive 121 days of credit for time already spent behind bars. We are republishing part of our original reporting that outlines what Cohen did and how police investigated the crimes which involved telling the victim that he was investing her money in a cannabis company, real estate development, and more.

“In November 2016, Cohen induced her to invest $1,200,000 in a cannabis company, Mass Alternative Care Inc., based out of Massachusetts. She was to receive an 8-percent return. The interest would accrue for 24 months. She was to receive her first dividend payment in December 2018. She has not received any payments. In August 2017 Cohen induced her to invest $250,000 in a townhouse project. She was to receive a 12 percent return. The promissory note was to mature on July 1, 2019, and the principal and accrued interest would become due on the same date.”

But the maturity dates came and went with no payouts. PBSO launched its investigation in 2019 and made the arrest in 2020. Cohen operated under the name “ECP Capital Partners.” He was not a licensed broker at the time he took the money and represented that he was licensed to conduct broker activity. It was not immediately clear which facility will house Cohen.
