UPDATE @ 4:15 p.m. — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com: “At approximately 12:10 p.m. PBCFR units were dispatched to the 13000 block of Jog Road at the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department for a report of a hazardous condition. Further 911 calls stated that there was a leak coming from an ammonia tank. The tank is contained inside of one of the buildings on the campus. The building’s containment features have worked as planned. The PBCWUD compound was evacuated as a precaution, however, no residents in the area required evacuation.  There are no reported injuries and nobody requested medical treatment on scene.

Initial entry teams placed a temporary seal around a gasket on the top of the tank where the leak is located. That gasket has almost completely stopped the leak. Units will remain on scene until the situation is completely controlled. Crews are continuing to work at permanently repairing the leak. Jog Road between Lake Ida and Flavor Pict was closed down to through traffic in abundance of caution. The southbound lanes have since reopened, though northbound is still closed.

Visitors traveling southbound on Jog Rd. to Wakodahatchee Wetlands are advised that the wetlands will remain closed while this situation is ongoing. Green Cay Wetlands at 12800 Hagen Ranch Rd, Delray Beach remains open for visitors. Haz Mat teams from PBCFR, Delray Beach Fire Rescue and Boca Raton Fire Rescue, along with PBC Water Utilities and PBSO have been working together to mitigate the situation as quickly and safely as possible. We will continue to provide updates as information is available.”

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Tuesday afternoon remains on the scene of a Hazardous Materials situation at 13026 South Jog Road. That’s a water treatment plant run by Palm Beach County. Northbound Jog Road is closed north of Lake Ida and South of Valencia Palms.

According to those involved with the ongoing cleanup operations, a 1,000-gallon ammonia tank started leaking just before noon. First-arriving rescuers continued an evacuation started by workers in the facility. Efforts continue as of 3:30 p.m. to cap the leak. There are no reports of serious injuries.

It’s unknown what caused the leak. It’s unclear how long first-responders will remain on the scene. While the facility is near several residential communities, there are no residential evacuations that we are aware of. Expect significant traffic issues in the area.

We are awaiting an update from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. We’ll publish it as soon as it’s received. Check back for updates.
