BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A “Fire Weather Watch” goes into effect at 11 a.m. Thursday following a smoke-filled night for much of Boca Raton and Delray Beach. As of 5:45 a.m., there’s still no official cause for the extreme smoke smell — and haze — that impacted much of South Palm Beach County Wednesday night. While Palm Beach County fire officials say there were no active controlled burns, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reports that a brush fire is burning in the Everglades, far west of Boynton Beach. The Air Quality Index for much of Palm Beach County is “moderate” as of early Thursday.
The National Weather Service says conditions are conducive for fires to start and spread in Palm Beach County. The agency has issued a “fire Weather Watch.” Here is the official alert:
