Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Issues Statement, Reveals How Many Calls 911 Received…

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — That smoke smell across Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and other parts of South Palm Beach County may have been related to a burn in the Everglades. That’s the latest statement from Palm Beach County Rescue which just revealed how many calls dispatchers received Wednesday evening. Here’s the official statement provided to BocaNewsNow.com:
>>PBCFR’s dispatch call center received over 150 calls within a 1 hour period for “smell of smoke” in the western Boca Raton area yesterday evening. That resulted in 12 dispatched “investigation” calls for smoky conditions. No fires were found in any of those responses. We also reached out to our area fire-rescue partners. There were no reported brush or structure fires in the area during the evening.
There was one brush fire response in Palm Beach County yesterday. That call came in at 2:14pm at the 8000 block of US Highway 27. The property owners were using water trucks to extinguish a small smoldering fire on agricultural land. Units had cleared at 3:15 pm.
We have spoken with the Division of Forestry. They were working on an approximate 10-acre vegetative debris/mulch fire. It was creating extremely smoky fire conditions late yesterday afternoon. This was west of Boca Raton/Delray/Northern Broward County. They have told us that as of this morning, the fire is completely contained and they are flooding the area to ensure complete extinguishment. This smoky fire, combined with strong west/northwest winds yesterday, is more than likely what brought the smoky conditions to the western Boca Raton area. The smoke conditions are expected to continue to improve throughout the day.<<
