UPDATE: Police confirm that this was a suicide. The victim was hit by a freight train.
DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train on the Brightline tracks in Delray Beach late Thursday night. The investigation into the death continues Friday. The victim was not immediately identified.
According to sources familiar with the emergency response, rescuers were called to the area of SE 10th Street and Dixie around 9:15 p.m. It was immediately clear to paramedics that there was nothing that they could do for the victim. The person was confirmed dead moments later. Delray Beach Police were also on the scene.
It was not immediately clear overnight whether the train involved was a Brightline train, or another train using the tracks used by Brightline. A schedule reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com indicated that there was no regularly scheduled Brightline service in that area at the time of the death.
The incident took place not far from the area where a Brightline Train struck a City of Delray Beach fire truck back in December. The incident remains under investigation by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the National Transportation Safety Board. It is believed that the fire truck driver disregarded active crossing arms while responding to a call. At least twelve train passengers and multiple fire rescue professionals were injured in that crash. The fire truck was destroyed.
