If you wait until hurricane season gets closer, fees may be charged. Here’s the official announcement shared with BocaNewsNow.com:
>>Before Florida begins its preparation for the annual Atlantic Hurricane Season, the Boynton Beach Solid Waste Division urges residents to trim their trees and shrubbery early. The city is offering a hurricane vegetation amnesty week from May 5 – 9, during which the city will allow residents unlimited, free vegetation pickup. Vegetation must be placed at the curb the day before residents’ regularly scheduled pick-up day. By keeping foliage trimmed, residents reduce the risk of creating flying debris and projectiles during a storm, as well as minimizing the necessity of vegetation debris removal after a storm.
Outside of vegetation amnesty week, residents may place 3 cubic yards of vegetation weekly on the day before their scheduled pick-up. Vegetation must be 4 feet in length, 4 inches in diameter, spaced 3 feet away from any obstruction such as mailboxes, cars or recycling bins. Vegetation must be separated from bulk trash or any debris. Large tree stumps and trunks larger than 4 feet in diameter require a special pick-up. The same guidelines apply for vegetation amnesty week.
Before hurricane season, property owners should:
- Regularly trim trees and shrubbery, cutting weak branches and thinning out foliage to decrease the chance of trees/plants being uprooted.
- Remove dead or broken limbs.
- Cut back trees and weak branches that make contact with structures.
- Thin foliage so that wind can flow freely through branches to prevent trees from being uprooted.
