BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — An 80-year-old man is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief after allegedly threatening a neighbor with a drill, screwing a screw into that man’s tire, then driving off through Boynton Beach with that man in the bed of his pickup truck. Herbert Dollinger was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on Sunday. He was later released on $1000 bond. The police report, obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, explains the story involving boats, hoses, acid, and an alleged kidnapping:

>> I responded to the area of 718 N. Shore Dr in reference to a possible kidnapping. Dispatch advised they were recelving multiple calls in reference to a W/M in the back of a silver Chevy Silverado pick-up truck screaming that he was being kidnapped. Dispatch also received a call from the victim who was in the back of the Silverado, stating that he was being kidnapped. It should be noted that the callers observed the truck traveling at a high rate of speed both southbound and back northbound on Federal Hwy. As I was responding to the call, I observed a silver Chevy Silverado bearing FL/JCLJ71 turn southbound onto Federal Hwy from Shore Dr with what appeared to be a W/M in the bed of the truck holding on as it was driving recklessly. A felony stop was initiated on truck at the 1400 block of N. Federal Hwy.

Upon arrival, both the driver and rear occupant of the vehicle were detained from the felony stop. I made contact with the W/M that was in the bed of the truck and identified him as Benjamin Shasho. Benjamin was placed into the rear of my patrol vehicle and Mirandized utilizing a department-issued Miranda Warning card. Benjamin provided a sworn statement via BWC.

Benjamin stated that he was cleaning his boat which is parked at the residence of 718 N. Shore Dr with a water hose that’s shared between the boat slips at this location. Benjamin advised that he had put Acid on his boat to clean it and stated that a W/M (later identified as Herbert Dollinger) took the water hose while he was applying the wax. Benjamin stated that at first, he allowed Herbert to use the water hose for a few minutes before he needed it back to wash the acid off of his boat. Benjamin stated that when he asked for the hose back, Herbert became aggressive and told Benjamin and his father (identified as Darren Shasho) to “go f—k themselves”. This led to a verbal argument between all parties. Benjamin then stated that he went to the rear of 718 N. Shore Dr to get another hose, and when he returned to the front of the residence, he observed Herbert utilizing a drill to insert screws into the tires of his Toyota Tacoma that was parked at the front of the residence. Benjamin confronted Herbert and stated that Herbert then took the drill (which had a long, skinny, and sharp phillip’s head drill bit) and raised it above his head as if he was going to hit Benjamin in the face with it. Benjamin stated that he was in fear of his life and reacted in self-defense by pushing Herbert to create distance between the two, which resulted in Herbert falling to the ground. Benjamin stated that Herbert started to kick at Benjamin as he was on the ground, before getting up and retreating back to his Chevy Silverado, tossing the drill in the back left corner of the pickup truck bed, and getting into his vehicle. Benjamin stated that he attempted to get a photo of the license plate on the truck when Herbert attempted to drive away from the scene. Benjamin then stated that he “instinctually” jumped into the bed of Herberts Silverado. Benjamin stated that he stood in the bed of the truck as Herbert began driving recklessly around the neighborhood at approximately 60 miles per hour. Benjamin stated that he called 911 while in the rear of the truck. It should be noted that I did not observe any injuries on Benjamin, and he denied all medical treatment when asked by BBFD.

(Police then spoke with witnesses who confirmed Benjamin’s story. The police report continues).

Officers made contact with Herbert who was mirandized utilizing a department issued Miranda Warning card. Herbert stated that he never hit Benjamin with the drill. When asked about the vandalism to Benjamin’s vehicle, Herbert stated that at no point did he touch the vehicle, nor put any screws into the tires. It should be noted that while on scene, Herbert stated that he never had or touched a drill. Once in booking, Herbert advised that he never hit Benjamin with the drill, but did have the drill in his hand raised above his head as if he was going to hit him. Benjamin stated to me “I didn’t hit him, but I was going to in self-defense.” Officers went to 718 Shore Dr to inspect Benjamin’s Toyota Tacoma. It was revealed that a screw was in fact lodged into the drivers side front tire. The screw appeared to be new and not there previously due to the fact that it was a gray color with no marring to the screw head. Officers who located the screw also advised the screw to be fresh in the tire due to the fact that they heard “whistling” from the screwhead, indicating that air was leaking from the screw. If the screw had been in the tire earlier, the tire would be completely flat before the incident occurred. <<
