BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — South Florida is in the midst of a drought according to officials with the National Weather Service the U.S. Drought Monitor. The situation is bad, with experts calling it an “extreme drought.” While we are unaware of water restrictions in place as of Thursday evening, we are told that restrictions could be implemented over the next several days if there isn’t a dramatic increase in rain. The drought is also creating an extreme fire hazard.
Meantime, ocean waters remain extremely rough — with ocean and fire rescue professionals staying busy up and down the coast in Palm Beach County. The National Weather Service issued a rip current advisory for the next several days.
ADVISORY: … HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING…
- WHAT… Dangerous rip currents expected.
- WHERE… Coastal Palm Beach County, Coastal Broward County and Coastal Miami Dade County.
- WHEN… From Friday morning through Sunday evening.
- IMPACTS… Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
