DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the fatal police shooting Monday night in North Broward. A Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputy shot and killed a woman threatening people with knives. BSO issued this update to BocaNewsNow.com late Tuesday afternoon:

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred Monday night in Deerfield Beach.

At approximately 7:07 p.m., Broward County Regional Communications received a 911 call about a female behaving erratically on the sidewalk near the intersection of South Federal Highway and Southeast 10th Street. The caller reported that the woman was waving a knife and stabbing a large black bag inside a shopping cart.

When Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene, they encountered the woman armed with two large knives approximately 18 inches long. According to investigators, as a BSO deputy approached the woman, she moved toward him while swinging the knife overhead in an aggressive manner. The deputy attempted to de-escalate the situation and have her drop all of her weapons. She refused to comply with his verbal commands and continued to advance toward the deputy while armed with one of the knives, prompting him to discharge his firearm striking her.

Moments later, additional responding deputies began life-saving measures and CPR until Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived. BSFR pronounced the woman deceased on scene. No one else was injured during the incident.

The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, and FDLE is the lead investigating agency regarding the shooting.

As per BSO policy, the deputy who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative assignment pending further investigation.
