DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Crashes, false fire alarms, and people driving like they’re blind as rain fell Friday afternoon were the three traditional signals that South Florida’s “Rainy Season” is either here or about to be here. The National Weather Service issued a series of alerts mid-afternoon. Moments later in some places, the skies opened and torrential rain fell.

From Jog Road in Delray Beach to I-95 in Boca Raton, fire rescue crews responded to crash after crash, false fire alarm after false fire alarm. Some motorists seemed surprised at just how quickly water rose on area streets, despite the fact that they’re the same streets that have been flat since South Florida was created.

On I-95, accidents and other issues in the main lanes and express lanes slowed traffic throughout the afternoon. We also received multiple complaints of people driving with flashers. Fun fact: that was illegal in Florida until 2021. It’s now okay to drive with your flashers on, but most people who have lived here for a while will look at you like there’s something wrong with you. No one seems to know why drivers think driving with flasher on in the rain is helpful to anyone.

The National Weather Service says more rain and thunderstorms are expected over the next several days. BocaNewsNow.com updates weather alerts in real time.
