BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A major crash on I-95 around 5:30 a.m. Monday closed the interstate northbound. The closure continues as of 10:15 a.m. All traffic is being diverted off of I-95 before Cypress Creek Road. The incident is in the northbound lanes in the area of the Cypress Creek Road off-ramp.
It was not immediately clear how many people — if any — were injured or killed. A multi-hour closure typically indicates a fatality or expected fatality. Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to a request for information.
The Florida Department of Transportation, which has been alerting on the crash since shortly after it occurred, is calling the delay situation “minor” as traffic levels are lower than normal due to the holiday. Anyone planning to head north on I-95 Monday should check Florida 511 for updates. Your best bet may be exiting I-95 at Commercial Boulevard and re-entering north of McNab.
UPDATE: This is the official narrative from Florida Highway Patrol as received by BocaNewsNow.com:
Vehicle 1 (V-1) – 2011 black Audi A4 sedan
Persons involved:
Driver 01 (D-1) – 23-year-old black male from Coconut Creek, Florida. (Minor injuries, not transported)
Passenger-01 (P-1) – 27-year-old black male from Pompano Beach, Florida. (Fatal injuries, Next of Kin completed)
V-1 was traveling north upon the center general-purpose lane of northbound Interstate 95 (State Road 9) just south of County Road 840 (Cypress Creek Road). D-1 lost control of V-1 and V-1 began to rotate clockwise as it traveled in a northeasterly direction. V-1 exited the roadway to the right towards a guardrail face. The right side of V-1 then collided with the guardrail end and face. V-1 came to rest facing west, while occupying the grassy area which separates the general-purpose lanes of Interstate 95 from the exit ramp of Interstate 95.
P-1 was transported to Broward Health North for medical treatment. P-1 succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. This is still an on-going investigation.
