UPDATE 2:07 p.m. — The scene is clearing. Expect roads to reopen shortly.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A hazardous materials situation first reported around 12:40 p.m. today continues to keep roads closed in the area of SW 18th Street and Palm D Oro in unincorporated Boca Raton. The situation remains active as of 1:30 p.m.

According to sources, a work crew in the area apparently struck a gas line leading to the hazmat situation. While firefighters are often able to patch a gas leak — or at least control it — this one apparently is so significant that nothing can happen until Florida Public Utilities arrives on the scene. Despite being called shortly after the incident was reported, FPU has yet to arrive.

Roads are closed in the area out of precaution. BocaNewsNow.com maps are showing SW 18th is completely shut down between Palm D’Oro and Fountainview Drive. Expect additional roads to be closed once FPU starts working in the area.

There are no reports of injuries. A large contingent of Palm Beach County fire rescue personnel remain on the scene. Check back for updates.
