
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Sarasota County woman is suing “The Boca Raton” (the hotel formerly known as the Boca Resort) after she claims that she was seriously injured during a business event on the property. Debi Calhoon, says her leg was lacerated due to a chair with a piece of metal that allegedly protruded into an area where Calhoon was walking. That metal piece, according to Calhoon In the lawsuit obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, cut her. Here is a section from the lawsuit that highlights the allegations:
“Defendants and/or their agents had arranged chairs for the event in such a way that hardware was protruding from the chairs. Defendants and/or their agents failed to properly inspect, maintain, or arrange the chairs to ensure the safety of their invitees. Defendants and/or their agents failed to warn Plaintiff of the dangerous condition created by the protruding hardware on the chairs.
Defendants and/or their agents owed a duty of care to Plaintiff as a business invitee. Defendants and/or their agents breached their duty of care by arranging chairs with protruding hardware, creating a dangerous condition on its premises. As a result of the protruding hardware, Plaintiff suffered a Defendant’s breach of duty directly and proximately caused laceration on her leg. Defendant’s breach of duty directly and proximately caused Plaintiff’s injury.”
Calhoon seeks in excess of $50,000 which is the statutory minimum for filing in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. “The Boca Raton” had not filed a response to the suit as of Tuesday morning. Debi Calhoon is represented by Attorney James Guarnieri of Tampa. The suit also names “Resort Hotel Purchasing Group, Inc.,” and “Boca Owner LLC” as co-defendants.


I, too, was gouged by one of those rusty protrusions…they gave me a free dinner buffet for 8! They had been warned.
