Thanks to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, you now buy guns tax free in Florida.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Environmentally-friendly HOV lanes are out, but deadly weapons are in as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signs the “Second Amendment Tax Holiday” into law. The law, which takes effect on July 1st, creates a sales tax holiday for weapons and related gear for more than a quarter of the year.

Here is the announcement made by Gov. DeSantis’ press office on Monday in a statement received by BocaNewsNow.com:

“The FY 2025-2026 budget includes $2 billion in tax relief focused on permanently repealing the business rent tax, renewing and expanding several sales tax holidays, and providing additional tax holidays to help keep more money in the pockets of Florida’s families. The budget saves Florida families more than $428 million through several sales tax holidays, including:

A “Second Amendment” sales tax holiday from September 8 through December 31, 2025, providing relief on purchases of bows, firearms, ammunition, tents, sleeping bags, camping stoves, fishing rods and reels, tackle boxes, and bait and tackle.

A permanent Back-to-School sales tax holiday every August, which includes clothing under $100, school supplies under $50, learning aids under $30, and personal computers under $1,500;

A permanent sales tax exemption on event tickets, state park admissions, life jackets, sunscreen, bike helmets, and insect repellent, so families can enjoy all the outdoor fun Florida has to offer;

Permanent exemptions for disaster preparedness items, including batteries, portable generators, tarps, gas cans, tie-down kits, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors.”

The sales tax holidays come as Gov. DeSantis eliminates HOV lanes in the State of Florida. Read more about that here. To be fair, several bills that many people on both sides of the aisle support were also signed into law. Read the complete highlight list prepared by the Governor’s office here.

  1. Murder weapon? Seriously? It sounds like you associate with criminals and give no regard to the regular person who wants to live free and unencumbered, who also wants to know that he can defend his self or family if that situation should ever arise. I expect more than this out of a neighborhood news app that formerly appealed to the whole neighborhood and not solely to fringe elements.

    1. DeSantis is such an idiot. And for all those triggered MAGA snowflakes who don’t like editorial content, go back to OAN and FOX news. You’ll be much happier and nobody will miss you.

  2. More wasteful laws from a wasteful legislature and governor desenseless.
    Tax holiday for all other items speaks to family camping but not firearms and ammo. How many will be sold taxfree to those who mean to use it for illicit activity.

  3. Really!!!! Murder weapon!!!!!
    How ignorant are the writers for this news media?
    There are people that buy guns for shooting targets. Some do it for competition, some for hobby, or for enjoyment meaning never for any living thing yet this media company is so uneducated that they call a firearm a “murder weapon”
