Tells Cop At Florida Atlantic University That He Drank “Too Much.”

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man allegedly told police at Florida Atlantic University that he consumed between eight and ten Yuengling beers before he was stopped by a concerned officer while driving on the FAU Boca Raton campus. David DeJean of the 7000 block of Avenida Del Mar in Boca Raton is now facing a DUI charge.
A police report filed by the Florida Atlantic University police department and obtained by BocaNewsNow.com doesn’t specify the probable cause that led an officer to stop DeJean, driving what’s only described as a “red Kia” in the area of NW 8th Avenue and Palm Beach State College Drive around 7:50 p.m. on Monday. But during the traffic stop, an officer wrote that the smell of an “unknown alcoholic beverage” was strong. During the stop, DeJean allegedly told police that was at the Irishmen Pub (1745 NW Boca Raton Boulevard) where he spent several hours drinking eight beers over several hours. He later wrote that he actually drank ten Yuengling beers.
“When I asked the driver how much alcohol he consumed,” wrote the arresting officer, “he stated ‘too much.’ Driver stated that he had not eaten for a long period of time and that his last drink was roughly one hour prior to our encounter.”

David DeJean allegedly had issues successfully completing a series of field sobriety exercises, so was taken into custody and asked to provide a breath sample. Police say he did, which yielded results of .176 and .169. The legal limit in Florida is .08.
DeJean was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on bond. A court date is pending.
