BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The National Hurricane Center Saturday afternoon evening said that a system is developing over the Gulf of Mexico near Florida. It’s still very, very early in the system’s development and it may amount to nothing at all. However, heavy rain is expected over parts of Florida — regardless of whether the system fully develops or not.

This is the Saturday evening “Tropical Weather Discussion” from the National Hurricane Center:

Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
800 PM EDT Sat Jul 12 2025

For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of America:

Northeastern Gulf: A trough of low pressure is likely to form near the southeastern U. S. coast during the next couple of days and then move westward across Florida into the northeastern Gulf by Tuesday. Environmental conditions could support some gradual development of this system during the middle to late part of next week while it moves westward over the northeastern and north-central portions of the Gulf. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall could produce localized flash flooding over portions of Florida and the north-central Gulf coast through mid to late next week.

  • Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent.
  • Formation chance through 7 days…low…20 percent.

Like the AP, we state that the body of water reference is above is known worldwide as the Gulf of Mexico, but acknowledge that President Trump has renamed it “Gulf of America.”

    1. As a trusted news source, you might want to get current and correct the name of the Gulf, so it is consistent with current maps. The Gulf of Mexico does not exist any longer – it is the Gulf of America. Just like the Country of Burma no longer exists – it is Myanmar.

      1. It will always be known as GULF OF NEXICO…..I pay no attention to what the orange faced idiot, Donald Trump says. He is a bold faced con artist. He fooled all the uninformed people to vote for him. END OF STORY!!!

    2. It’s the Gulf of America, regardless of how you feel about the POTUS. The name was changed officially and unless you’re in a country that it doesn’t affect, that’s the correct name. If the next president decides to change it to something else, that will be the name of it, period.

      1. It is still the Gulf of Mexico and it will always be the Gulf of Mexico. Trump does not have the authority to rename a body of water. To the rest of the world, it’s the Gulf of Mexico.

  1. The Associated Press may be the world’s preeminent journalistic organization, but the President of the United States #Trumps that. The correct name is Gulf of America.

  2. I can not believe how many crazy people are going with Gulf of America. If Trump were to say “I’m calling all Catholic people ‘Martians,’” these people would no doubt say “that’s great. My supreme leader is calling them Martians, so that’s what they are.” He is a dangerous man with very sick followers.

    1. Such a genius!! The Montreal Assessment Test, the one he says he aced, is the same one you have to pass to get into independent living in the senior homes. If you can’t pass it they won’t let you move in , except for assisted living or the nursing home wing!!.
