City Of Boca Raton Announced School Zone Speeding Camera Program Monday… Read The Contract… Sued In Georgia For “Policing For Profit…”

BY: ANDREW COLTON | Editor and Publisher | BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Private company RedSpeed Florida — which is based in Illinois — will receive $21 for every ticket its system issues for speeders photographed by automated cameras in Boca Raton school zones. The City of Boca Raton announced the program on Monday. It goes into effect when the 2025-2026 school year starts in just weeks.
As we reported on Monday, citations issued by the camera system will be financial only — no points, no reporting to insurance companies. The “notice of violation” fine of $100 will be split between Red Speed ($21), the City of Boca Raton ($39) and various Palm Beach County and State of Florida funds — including “Crossing Guard Recruitment.”
While some BocaNewsNow.com readers expressed concern that the City is using the cameras as a way to spy on drivers, the vast majority of people reaching out to our newsroom expressed surprise that Boca Raton is doing anything that would undermine the seriousness of speeding through a school zone. The owner of the vehicle caught speeding receives the ticket — not the driver.
“A $100 fine is nothing in Boca Raton,” said Boca resident Bob Stein. “People need to be ticketed by a police officer and given a court date, not a meaningless fine that carries no points or other penalties.”
“Why are they ticketing the owner of the car and not the driver?” asked Rebecca Marlowe. “That sends the wrong message. Speeding in a school zone can lead to a child being killed. The penalty should be more than a small fine to someone who may have not even been in the car.”
The City of Boca Raton told BocaNewsNow.com that the cameras are meant to enhance but not replace the work of police officers who will still patrol school zones.
“It will not decrease the use of police officers,” said City Spokesperon Ileana Olmsted who reiterated that the ‘notice of violation’ will be the responsibility of the vehicle’s owner.
There are two exceptions: “The motor vehicle was, at the time of the violation, in the care, custody, or control of another person. In this case, the liability will be transferred to the person listed as the driver,’ said Olmstead. “(Or) the motor vehicle was, at the time of the violation, in the care, custody, or control of another person. In this case, the liability will be transferred to the person listed as the driver.”
Don’t Ignore The School Zone Ticket…
The City of Boca Raton says that a vehicle owner ignoring the “notice of violation” will receive a uniform traffic citation, although it is unclear for what charge and whether it is point-generating. The City of Boca Raton did not immediately respond to our request for clarification.
RED SPEED CONTROVERSY
BocaNewsNow.com has learned that RedSpeed Florida is based in Illinois and does not have a physical address in Florida. RedSpeed uses a “registered agent” address for its filings with the Florida Secretary of State. The company is facing a federal lawsuit filed by motorists ticketed in Georgia. The federal suit, filed in 2022, alleges that RedSpeed is “Policing For Profit.” The case continues. RedSpeed uses a Wix website and carries a copyright of 2035.
Greg Parks, Vice President of RedSpeed and the person who entered into the contract with the City of Boca Raton, did not immediately respond to a request for information on how many tickets the system issued over the past year in nearby Plantation — where it’s been active. The City of Plantation’s agreement with RedSpeed is included in the Boca Raton contract which we are publishing below. What will happen when school bus’s that are speeding are ticketed? I see it all the time.Speeding; No turn signals.
Real simple, slow down in school zone.
This is why you don’t let just anyone drive your car.
Yesterday I said follow the money. How much did Redspeed contribute to politicians or Political Packs? Follow the money, nothing more thst revenue collection without due process or innocent until proven guilty. This my friends is how freedom is lost and you sit and applaud to make you think you are safer
