UPDATE at 3:26 p.m. from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue: “Just before
1pm, PBCFR Units were dispatched to the 1700 block of Lake Worth Road at the Tri-Rail Station for a person stuck in an elevator.  Upon arrival, Firefighters made contact with one individual who was in a stuck elevator. The elevator was completely between floors and a technical rescue compliment was added.

While some members worked on setting up a high point for a potential technical rope rescue, others were able to override the controls and safely lower the car to the first floor and open the doors.  The person inside the elevator denied any injury or ill-effects and did not request transport.  Units have since cleared.”

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A person was trapped in a Tri-Rail train station elevator for nearly an hour Wednesday afternoon. The person, trapped between the first floor and the second floor of the Lake Worth station, was ultimately extricated just after 2:30 p.m.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue dispatched nearly 20 units to handle the rescue operation. At one point, Special Operations rescuers attempted to gain access to the elevator by rope, but we are told ultimately used a hydraulic system to force the elevator car to move to the first floor. Once on the ground, rescuers opened the door and released the trapped person.

It was not immediately clear what led to the elevator malfunction. While elevator rescues are commonplace for fire rescue personnel in South Palm Beach County, elevator rescues that span nearly an hour and require a large number of rescuers — and heavy equipment — are not.

We expect a full update from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue later in the day. Check back for updates.
