
DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The City of Delray Beach Wednesday evening announced that its new police chief is Darrell Hunter.
Chief Hunter, who has served with the department since 2007 and previously held the position of Assistant Chief, brings nearly two decades of law enforcement experience and proven leadership to the role.
“Chief Hunter’s extensive experience, both operationally and administratively, along with his commitment to community policing, brings a strong sense of stability to our police department,” said Delray Beach City Manager Terrence R. Moore. “His leadership and dedication to service make him the ideal choice to guide Delray Beach into the future while maintaining the trust and confidence of our residents.”
Chief Hunter has served in multiple roles throughout his career, including detective in the Investigative Division, supervisor of the Community Patrol Division and Clean and Safe Unit, and leadership positions as sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and assistant chief. He holds a graduate certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia, a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Waldorf University, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. Additionally, Chief Hunter is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and several other prestigious leadership programs.
