Car Flips Into West Boca Raton Canal, Driver Dies

A man is dead following a crash at U.S. 441/SR 7 and Sandalfoot Boulevard early Sunday morning.

UPDATE at 1:58 p.m. — PBSO says they have now notified the next of kin for the victim and can identify her as Tiana Ganswith of Margate.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A woman is dead following a one car crash in West Boca Raton early Sunday morning. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says a 2017 Kia Sorrento ended up in a canal near U.S. 441 and Sandalfoot Boulevard. The driver was trapped inside as the car sank.

According to investigators, the vehicle was heading north on U.S. 441/ SR7 around 1:38 a.m. when, “for an undetermined reason, the vehicle left the roadway and entered into the softy grassy shoulder on the east side of State Road 7. As the vehicle exited the roadway, it began to rotate clockwise.”

Investigators add that, “the vehicle then vaulted into and on top of the metal guard rail. As the collision continued, the vehicle slid and rolled into the canal located on the east side of State Road 7.”

The sole passenger in the vehicle was able to free himself before the Kia Sorrento sank. The driver, identified only as a black female in her early 50s, was unable to get out. She was ultimately removed and transported to Boca Raton Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
