Simon Property Group Shame. Welcome To Boca Rudeton For Sunday…

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The CEO of Simon Property Group (NYSE:SPG), the company that owns Boca Raton Town Center Mall, is battling cancer. But according to the Wall Street Journal, David Simon is still calling the shots at his properties nationwide. If you think that a man with serious health issues would be looking out for his customers who may also have serious health issues by keeping his properties clean, you’d apparently be very wrong. How do we know? Look no further than the pile of dog poop on display this week in his cherished Boca Raton mall.

The poop was noticed by someone who cared enough to put out a warning sign, but apparently not by an employee who cared enough to clean it up. It’s the latest example of the ongoing dog problem in Boca Raton and South Palm Beach County — one exacerbated by Simon Property Group and Town Center Mall — where dogs are inexplicably allowed to ruin the shopping experience for everyone. We wish David Simon well. We also wish that he’d cede control of his cleaning and rule-making operations to people who are capable of doing the job.

We move now from Town Center Mall to Starbucks at Federal and Fifth Avenue in Boca Raton. That’s where our tipster wondered if Starbucks, the company that continues to fail (NASDAQ:SBUX), has completely gone to the dogs. Our tipster saw three dogs — at once — in the store. Two were apparently barking at each other. The dogs are, of course, illegal under Florida law. Animals are not allowed inside restaurants unless they’re trained service animals providing a function. And it’s illegal to lie about your dog’s training. (And Starbucks wonders why its sales keep declining!)

Let’s stay in East Boca Raton and head over to Trader Joe’s where this woman and her dog were seen shopping in the refrigerated section. It’s fine to buy cold things. It’s not fine to buy them while toting your fluffy dog through the store. If we’ve said it once, we’ve said a heck of a lot more than once: dogs are not allowed in supermarkets. Maybe this dog is a highly trained service animal. Or maybe it’s just a dog illegally in a store. What do you think?

Fasten your seatbelts as you board DogForceONE and head up to Jupiter, where a tipster there wanted us to know that dogs in stores and restaurants is a problem everywhere. This was the scene earlier this week in a Culver’s in Jupiter. Two dogs. One woman. Why?

As we head back down to South Palm Beach County, let’s stop at Hullabaloo in Palm Beach. That’s where our tipster wonders if the dog sitting at the bar was carded. We wonder if anyone would get upset if they looked in the direction of the woman and said, “that’s a real dog.”

This is a good time to remind everyone of the laws and statutes in Florida when it comes to dogs and lying about their service status. We again turn to our friends at LaBamba in Delray Beach. The sign, above, remains outside the restaurant’s front door. We’re glad it does.

And we head back down to Delray Beach and Publix at Linton and Jog. We are shocked we tell you, absolutely shocked, that there would be a dog in Publix. After all, there are huge signs saying NO DOGS. But this woman apparently can’t read. That’s the only explanation for why she would have an animal in the store.
THE BOCA RUDETON WINNER OF THE WEEEK.
It wasn’t even close this week, so we’ll dispense with the drama and just report that by way of unanimous decision, the winner is SIMON PROPERTY GROUP! No other company in America is aiding and abetting bad behavior by dog owners more than SPG — the owner of Boca Raton Town Center Mall and so many more across the nation. It apparently takes a company focused on the poor health of its leader to be totally unfocused on gross people who let their dogs pee and poop in a mall that should be one of its Crown Jewels. Nothing says, “buy your shoes here instead of from the comfort of your clean home on Zappos” than dog poop. So for Simon Property Group and David Simon, we present our special award!

Yes, we can’t get enough of Google Gemini AI’s ability to perfectly craft the award we’re seeking. And this one is spot on. It’s a special award that says Simon with a dog peeing on it). Congrats Simon Property Group! Congrats!!!!

It’s very disturbing to regular folks.
It is obviously a problem of dog owners disobeying federal law by bringing dogs into businesses, however, the businesses have ZERO enforcement of federal law.
I believe that if federal officials enforced the law with significant fines to the businesses ($500-1,000 per infraction) the problem would be solved.
With no consequences, why stop???
Dogs everywhere is unsanitary on so many levels. Not to mention dangerous. The shopping experience has been ruined because people can’t leave their mutts at home. Are people that pathetic that their precious pup can’t stay home for a few hours? How did we end up like this?
I love dogs and we own a dog. We take her to Bark Beach, go on walks and she has a nice yard to play in. I would never bring her (she is well behaved) into a public place where she doesn’t belong. Not everyone is a dog lover and those folks shouldn’t have to put up with dogs in the grocery store etc. In the above picture with the dog sitting at the bar, how would you like to be the next one to sit there with the potential of smeared dog poop on the seat? In conversations with store owners and store managers, the basic opinion seems to be that they do not want to confront dog owners unless there has been a complaint. In other words, if the no dogs allowed signs don’t work, they prefer not to engage in any confrontation. But lets face it, in today’s society rules are very often ignored.
On a visit to Town Center Mall recently, one of the visiting poches obviously had a GI problem and emitted diarrhea with a sickening, disgusting odor. I was unfortunate to walk by at the time of this emission and I nearly vomited. I walked away quickly thinking that I needed to find a different mall to shop at. And I also noticed there were fewer people in the mall manning waste bins, brooms and mops than in the past.
Simon can and should do better than this at a mall that has become a dog park for residents wanting to show off their pooches and allow them to deposit their waste whenever and wherever they want.
Bravo!! Keep calling out the rude folks!! As a dog owner myself, I am disgusted by the nerve of these individuals and there total disrespect for the law and fellow shoppers!! The stores are also at fault and too bad the local police department does zero to enforce the laws!
Why would a dog in a stroller bother anyone?
I see a dog(s) in a restaurant or grocery I just walk out and leave my potential purchases wherever I happen to be. so the place of business loses my business and they will have to return all my items to their proper homes. I wonder how many others do the same thing? It is just a wast of breath to say anything as nothing gets done anyway.
The fine needs to be given to the dog owners for
#1 being stupid
#2 being selfish
#3 not picking up after your animals
Start fines at $500 and less ppl will bring their pets.
See something Say something
Keep up the great work Boca News Now. It’s the rich snobs that think they are entitled to bring their dogs wherever they want. The security guards and cops at the mall walk right past people with their dogs.
I think The guards are afraid of getting into a confrontation with people so they ignore it.
People need to write letters to the management of the mall AND to Simon and if they don’t stop then to boycott the mall.
I would like to comment on the Boca Rudeness that’s getting worse
I report to the store manager about animals in the facility.
I also report unauthorized use of handicaped parking spaces.
I’m 75 with painful cancer and cannot get a HC spot when it rains in many locations.
These store managers ignore these situations because I follow them and they just go thru the door into the back room or into their offices.
