BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A reminder to parents and guardians: all public and most private schools are closed on Thursday, October 2nd. While some students may tell you it’s to get ready for the release of Taylor Swift’s “Life Of A Show Girl,” it’s actually the Jewish High Holiday of Yom Kippur. (Or as Rabbis might call it, “Life Of A Shofar”).

The holiday starts at sundown Wednesday, so most — but again, not all — after school activities and sporting events are not taking place. Check with your school for specifics. Most schools also prohibit teachers from assigning homework on Wednesday night, or holding quizzes or tests on Friday when school resumes.

If your teacher assigns you work over either holiday, send us a note.

While we’re talking about school holidays in the public school system, the next vacation is Thanksgiving break. For public school kids, it starts November 24th and runs through the 28th of November. That’s followed by Winter Break for public schools which starts December 24th and continues through January 2nd.
