BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man was arrested at Florida Atlantic University’s stadium Saturday night after allegedly assaulting a firefighter and battering a sheriff’s deputy who were attempting to provide him with medical aid. Thiago Abrante Da Costa, 27, now faces multiple charges, including a felony, following the altercation with first responders.
The incident began around 8:00 PM when paramedics was dispatched for a medical assistance call in Section 227 of the stadium. A firefighter who we will identify as “First Responder 1 (FR1),” encountered Abrante Da Costa, who was exhibiting signs of heavy alcohol intoxication. According to the police report, as FR1 and an another first responder helped Abrante Da Costa down the stairs, Abrante Da Costa became angry, began yelling, and allegedly raised his fist, swinging at the two firefighters. FR1 was able to restrain Abrante Da Costa’s arm to prevent anyone from being struck.

The confrontation escalated as personnel tried to secure Abrante Da Costa for transport to Boca Raton Medical Center. A PBSO deputy, also at the game, assisted Fire Rescue in placing the combative man onto a stretcher. After Abrante Da Costa kicked through the initial leg restraints applied by the fire rescue team, the deputy attempted to secure his legs using a hobble restraint. Abrante Da Costa, however, allegedly kicked Deputy Mucia in his left cheek.
Abrante Da Costa was eventually subdued and transported to Boca Raton Regional Hospital for medical treatment. After he was medically cleared by hospital staff, Florida Atlantic University Police read him his Miranda Rights and formally placed him under arrest.
Abrante Da Costa was charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, a felony, as well as two misdemeanors: Simple Assault on a Firefighter and Disorderly Intoxication in a public place.
