BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man shot himself in the head Sunday after leading a Florida Highway Patrol trooper on a chase through Boca Raton. The man, who has not been identified, was transported to Broward North Hospital with what authorities described as life-threatening injuries.
In a statement to BocaNewsNow.com, FHP says the incident began when a state trooper attempted to stop a man on a red motorcycle for reckless driving near Yamato Road and Technology Way. According to FHP, the motorcyclist refused to stop and fled from the trooper. A police helicopter was called in to provide aerial support and track the fleeing suspect for units on the ground.
The pursuit ended when the motorcyclist stopped at a nearby plaza. Officials said he then produced a firearm and shot himself. Though his injuries were critical, authorities reported he was alert and responsive when transported.
FHP said the case remains an active criminal investigation and more information will be released later.
