MYAKKA CITY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — – Get ready for knights, jousting, and turkey legs. The 21st Annual Sarasota Medieval Fair officially opens its gates this weekend at Mallaranny Farms, kicking off a month-long journey back in time. The family-friendly event will run every Saturday and Sunday throughout November in Myakka City, transforming the farm into a bustling medieval village.

The centerpiece of this year’s fair is a creative take on history called “The Battle of Halidon Hill.” Performers will reenact the 1333 clash between England and Scotland, but with a unique twist. The entire conflict will be staged as a “human combat chess match” on a giant board, featuring knights, archers, and royalty battling for victory through strategy and pageantry.

“Over the past 13 weeks, I’ve watched our dedicated cast of local performers work tirelessly to bring the story of The Battle of Halidon Hill to life,” said Tara Connelly, the fair’s artistic director. “We are so excited to welcome every guest to the Woods of Mallaranny and share this unique experience.”

While the chess-match battle is the main event, visitors can also watch real jousting tournaments, browse artisan markets, and enjoy live music, games, and food. Organizers say the fair, which began in 2005, continues its tradition of blending historical spirit with modern-day fun for the whole family.
