BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The daughter of a woman murdered by an ex-boyfriend filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Boynton Beach and one of its police officers Thursday, alleging the officer mocked her mother’s pleas for help and allowed the killer to follow her from the police station just moments before her death.

The lawsuit, filed by Abigail Orelien, states that her mother, Fridelene Daniel, went to the main Boynton Beach police station on the morning of November 8, 2023, seeking protection from her ex-boyfriend, Robens Cesar. The complaint alleges Cesar was stalking Daniel and followed her directly into the police station lobby, where he stood menacingly nearby as she spoke with officers.
Daniel, who was of Haitian descent, told Officer Jermaine Jones that Cesar had a handgun and that she feared he would kill her, stating he would “make me die.” The lawsuit claims that instead of helping, Officer Jones, in the presence of Cesar, mocked Daniel’s inability to “clearly” speak English and her pronunciation of the word “gun.”

The complaint accuses Jones of numerous failures, including not separating Daniel and Cesar for an interview, failing to call for a Creole interpreter, and declining to run a background check on Cesar. Jones allegedly did not provide Daniel with domestic violence resources or a legal rights form. He then “summarily dismissed” Daniel, allowing both her and Cesar to leave the station at approximately the same time.

According to the suit, Jones allowed Cesar to follow Daniel out of the lobby, to the BBPD parking lot, and all the way to her apartment complex. Minutes after leaving the police station, Cesar confronted Daniel in her parking lot and shot her multiple times in the head and torso, killing her. The lawsuit, filed by Orelien as the representative of her mother’s estate, brings counts of negligent training and retention against the city, vicarious liability for the officer’s actions, and a direct claim against Jones for reckless and willful disregard for Daniel’s safety.

Orelien is represnted by Attorney Gary Susser. The City of Boynton Beach did not immediately issue a statement following the filing of the suit. Read the complete complaint, here;
