Kayla Urbina Diaz, 37, was taken into custody on November 15th by the Delray Beach Police Department and charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury and refusal to submit to a breath alcohol test.
Police responded to the intersection of Lake Ida Road and Barwick Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. where investigators determined Urbina Diaz was at fault for the collision. According to the arrest report, Urbina Diaz was driving a white Mercedes GLE which collided with a red Chevrolet pickup truck and a white Honda Accord. Two passengers in the Chevrolet sustained serious injuries and were transported to Delray Medical Center as trauma alerts.
Officers on the scene reported that Urbina Diaz displayed obvious signs of impairment, including extremely bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. While she reportedly admitted to responding firefighters that she had been drinking, she refused to tell police how much alcohol she had consumed and declined to perform standard roadside sobriety exercises. She was subsequently placed into custody and transported to the Palm Beach County Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) facility.

At the testing facility, Urbina Diaz allegedly refused to provide a breath sample despite being read implied consent warnings. Following the refusal, police obtained a search warrant for a blood draw to determine her blood alcohol content. She was later booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
