BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boynton Beach woman is facing a felony charge after police say a ride home from the hospital turned violent involving a jar of olives. Shephelah Ayala, 37, was arrested on November 23rd and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a domestic disturbance that began at Bethesda Hospital and escalated inside a moving vehicle.

According to a Boynton Beach Police Department arrest report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, police say Ayala’s mother, Rosita, asked Ayala’s sister, Avasharah, to help her pick up Shephelah, who was being discharged from Bethesda Hospital. The report says that the mother requested the sister’s company because she dislikes driving at night, despite knowing the two sisters “do not get along.” When they arrived, Shephelah reportedly became immediately upset that her sister was present for the pickup.

While the trio was driving home, the situation allegedly intensified. Investigators say Shephelah became belligerent and demanded to be let out of the car. Her sister, who was driving, refused to stop the vehicle, citing her mother’s claim that Shephelah was intoxicated. Police allege that Shephelah then threw a Publix bag containing a jar of olives at her sister’s head. The impact reportedly grazed the back of the driver’s head, and the force was significant enough to break the jar’s seal, spilling olive juice inside the vehicle.

The family returned to the hospital where they met with law enforcement. During questioning, Shephelah admitted to arguing with her sister but denied throwing the jar. She told officers she expected to be picked up by an Uber and was disappointed to see her family instead. She claimed the Publix bag she was holding only contained bread. Based on witness statements and the evidence of the spilled juice, police determined there was probable cause to charge her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
