BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It took nearly nine hours but evacuations ordered Thursday night in Boca Raton’s Royal Palm Yacht Club were lifted around 4 a.m. Friday when a dangerous situation was brought under control.

BocaNewsNow.com has learned that faulty gas line work in the area of South Maya Palm Road and Date Palm Road led to a smell of gas Thursday evening. Boca Raton Fire Rescue, called to the scene to investigate, confirmed extremely high levels of gas leaking from a pipe that was apparently cut during the construction work. It’s unclear how or why the workers didn’t realize they left a dangerous situation.

Roads in Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club were closed as several homes were evacuated. Boca Raton Fire Rescue’s Hazardous Materials squad worked through the night to mitigate the situation as gas workers were called to the scene.

Nearly nine hours after the gas odor was first reported, the scene was declared safe and everyone was permitted back in their houses. No injuries were reported.
