“On Saturday, December 6, 2025, at approximately 5:21 p.m., deputies responded to a reported altercation involving an off-duty deputy and an adult male in the 9000 block of Water Course Way, unincorporated Boynton Beach. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased male, identified as Jean Joseph, 61, of Greenacres,” said a PBSO spokesperson mid-day Tuesday. “The off-duty deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with standard agency protocol. The investigation is active and ongoing. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is the lead investigating agency.”
FDLE Monday confirmed the investigation to BocaNewsNow.com but said its investigation is limited to the deputy’s use of force. FDLE investigates most officer involved shootings in Florida. An investigation often takes months before an official report is released.
BocaNewsNow.com was first to report that the incident took place on Water Course Way which is east of Jog Road and just north of Boynton Beach Boulevard. Several first responders initially believed that the victim of the shooting was deputy, but later realized the deputy was the shooter. The shooting location is near the home of someone granted a “confidential” listing with the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser. While we have obtained the name of the homeowner, we are withholding the information at this time. Homeowners with ‘confidential’ listings are normally law enforcement or law enforcement-adjacent. Witnesses do report seeing a PBSO police vehicle in the driveway of a home near the shooting location — prior to the emergency response.
