Scam Alert Roofing
Beware of roofing scams that start with a text message like the one above.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — There’s another scam to be aware of if you live in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, or Wellington. Presumably fake contractors are hiring off-shore call centers to text from local numbers — then try to sell roofing services that you may not need. More importantly, these people are able to case your house and determine the easiest ways in for a potential burglary.

BocaNewsNow.com is aware of several attempts made by “roofing companies” in South Palm Beach County. The texts tend to come from the 754 area code which is one of the “newer” South Florida/Broward County area codes. That’s relevant because when a scammer is creating a disposable telephone number through online services, it’s very easy to get numbers with newer area codes. Area codes 561, 305, and 954 may still be used, but are much more challenging to obtain from VOIP (voice over internet protocol) providers.

BocaNewsNow.com tried to reach out to one of the potential scammers using 754-203-5466 but couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone. When we texted, our message asking for a phone number to call for more information went unanswered.

If you receive any unsolicited offering house work, house services, even landscaping, ignore the text and add the number to your blocked list. Police across South Florida constantly warn visitors and residents about these scams. The best way to protect yourself is to ignore any contact that you are not expecting.
