BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County man is seeking more than $50,000 in damages following a midday car wreck involving an Uber driver in Boynton Beach. Heitch Nayther Alectus alleges that the collision in May left him with permanent injuries and significant financial losses. The lawsuit names both the driver and the tech giant as defendants in the legal action.
According to the filing reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, the crash occurred on May 16, 2025, at approximately 12:19 PM. Alectus was driving his 2015 Chrysler 200 southbound on NW 2nd Street and was attempting to make a left turn onto West Boynton Beach Boulevard. It was during this turn that he was allegedly struck by a 2020 Toyota Prius operated by Jose Rafael Lora. The intersection.
Attorneys for Alectus argue that at the time of the crash, Lora was acting as an employee or agent for Uber Technologies, Inc. and its subsidiary, Rasier, LLC. Because Lora was reportedly performing job duties and “transporting people” for the company when the impact occurred, the lawsuit contends that Uber should be held vicariously liable for the driver’s alleged negligence.
In addition to the corporate entities, the vehicle’s registered owner, Claritza Lora, is also being sued. The plaintiff invokes the “dangerous instrumentality” doctrine, a legal concept in Florida that holds a vehicle owner responsible for damages caused by anyone they allow to drive their car. The suit alleges that Jose Lora had express or implied permission to use the Prius, making the owner strictly liable for the resulting fallout of the accident.
Alectus claims the collision resulted in bodily injury, mental anguish, and a loss of future earning capacity. Uber has not yet filed a response in Palm Beach County Circuit Court.
