Another Person Struck, Killed By Train In South Palm Beach County

Death By Train

Second Person Struck In Just Days.

Death By Train
A person was struck and killed, again, by a Brightline Train Sunday morning.

UPDATE: We have now learned this was not a Brightline train but a freight train which uses the same tracks. Brightline trains were delayed in the area. (Brightline runs on FEC tracks).

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The year is only four days old but at least two people have already been struck by trains in South Palm Beach County. Police and rescue personnel as of 9:45 Sunday morning remain on the scene of the latest strike — just south of Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. A person was hit and killed.

The latest strike took place just before 9 a.m. as the southbound freight train moved through Delray Beach towards Boca Raton. The person was struck somewhere in the area of Atlantic Avenue. Sources say he or she was immediately killed. The remains of the body was found a short time later. An employee on the train, according to authorities, helped police and fire rescue professionals locate the point of impact. The identity of the victim was not immediately released.

This death follows a bizarre Brightline incident on January 1st where a man’s head was struck by a train just north of Boynton Beach in Lantana. That man survived and was rushed to Delray Medical Center. It’s unclear how his head came into contact with the train.

Brightline is considered the deadliest train system in the United States, in large part due to the fact that pedestrians and motorists seem incapable of comprehending that warning signs, flashing lights, and lowered gates mean “wait for the train to pass” and not “speed up to beat the train.”
