UPDATE 12:18 p.m. — Traffic MAY be moving but just one lane around the scene. It’s making very little difference. Traffic northbound is also backed up for gaper delays.
UPDATE 11:28 a.m. — Traffic is completely shut at Boynton Beach Boulevard. The backup spans several miles.
BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A major crash on the Florida Turnpike has closed all southbound lanes as of 11:10 a.m. The crash is north of Atlantic Avenue and South of Boynton Beach Boulevard.
Very preliminary information received by BocaNewsNow.com indicates that a Mack Truck slammed into the side of the turnpike in an area that is under construction. That ignited the truck which had just filled up multiple tanks with diesel fuel. Fuel is now leaking onto the Turnpike. The driver’s condition was not immediately known — but he was communicating with emergency officials

Witnesses saw fire in the moments after the crash. Firefighters quickly arrived and extinguished the blaze.
While Palm Beach County Fire Rescue works exceptionally fast, expect delays to continue for quite some time. We’ll update once we learn more.
