PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts Mike Caruso, appointed to the position months ago by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis when Joseph Abruzzo became Palm Beach County Administrator, wants to keep his job. The well-liked and respected Caruso just filed to run in the special election set for November 3, 2026.

“I still have work to do for the people of Palm Beach County,” Clerk Caruso said. “Our team at the Clerk’s office has accomplished a great deal together since I became Clerk, from alerting Palm Beach County to scams, to improving the jury duty experience, to maximizing our county’s return on investment in Israel Bonds to strengthening the county’s IT security. The Clerk’s office is Here to Help everyone in Palm Beach County, and as Clerk I want to continue building on the progress we’ve made for our entire community.”

Clerk Caruso, a Certified Public Accountant and former member of the Florida House of Representatives representing communities from Boca Raton to Jupiter, was appointed as Palm Beach County’s Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller by Gov. Ron DeSantis on August 18, 2025. He was sworn into office at midnight on August 19.

In a statement Caruso said these were — and are — his top priorities: “Modernizing vendor payment systems in collaboration with the County Administrator. Protecting citizens from guardianship and real property fraud. Maintaining conservative and sound investment strategies for the County’s investment portfolio managed by the Clerk’s office. Advocating for a unified searchable database among 20 judicial circuits and 67 counties to allow streamlined access to the public across the state. Ensuring full compliance with audits to uphold the highest oversight and accountability standards throughout Palm Beach County.”

“Clerk Caruso already delivered on several of those priorities,” said a statement issued by his campaign, “purchasing an additional $364.5 million in Israel Bonds to maximize return on investment for the county’s taxpayers, and airing on cable and local tv stations 3 different public service announcements to help warn the community about scams involving traffic tickets, jury duty and property deed fraud.”

Caruso is registered as a Republican. Boca Raton City Council member Yvette Drucker, a Democrat, previously announced that she is also running for the Clerk’s position. Republican Samuel Thompson also is registered to run.
