GREENACRES, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A child is dead three days after he was struck while exiting an UBER vehicle in Greenacres. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says Juan Monge of Lake Worth, 14, died at Delray Medical Center earlier today.
According to investigators, Monge exited the passenger side of a northbound Uber vehicle in an area with no street lights around 10:30 on Friday night. After stepping out, he attempted to cross the road from east to west by walking behind the stopped ride-share car. As he moved into the southbound travel lanes, he entered the path of an oncoming vehicle.
The driver of that vehicle, 50-year-old Marie Lida Pierre Manasse of Greenacres, was traveling southbound in her 2008 Ford when the boy emerged. Investigators report that Manasse was unable to avoid the collision. The front of her vehicle struck Monge, projecting him into the southbound grass on the western side of the road. Manasse, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash and brought her vehicle to a controlled rest immediately after the impact.
Monge was rushed to the hospital with a significant head injury and remained in critical condition until he passed away Monday morning. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is handling the ongoing investigation. At this time, the report notes that Monge had “improperly emerged” into the lane of travel, and no charges have been filed against the driver.
