According to FHP, the crash occurred at approximately 5:47 AM on Sunday, in the northbound lanes just north of Boynton Beach Boulevard. The victims have been identified as a 31-year-old man from Lake Worth and a 38-year-old man from Boynton Beach.
Investigators at the scene determined that the vehicle involved, a white 2007 Chevy Trailblazer, was traveling in the inside lane when it began to drift onto the left shoulder. Evidence from skid marks suggests that the driver attempted an abrupt evasive maneuver to return to the roadway, which caused him to lose control of the SUV. The vehicle then careened across the highway toward the right shoulder, where the front right side struck a metal guardrail.
The force of the collision with the guardrail caused the Trailblazer to overturn. During the rollover, the 38-year-old passenger was fully ejected from the vehicle, coming to rest on the roadway. The SUV eventually stopped on its left side, facing west and blocking the center lane. While the passenger was found outside the vehicle, the driver remained entrapped within the wreckage.
Emergency responders transported the driver to Delray Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The passenger also sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The investigation continues.
