The scene on the Turnpike near Glades Road around 5:25 pm Sunday.

UPDATE 8:14 p.m. — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue just sent us this update: At approximately 5:20 this evening, PBCFR was dispatched to a reported multi-vehicle crash on the southbound Florida Turnpike near mile marker 75. Several 911 callers gave conflicting reports whether the crash might be in the northbound lanes. Therefore, PBCFR and BCSOFR crews also responded from the south.

Initial arriving units found a crash involving four vehicles in the southbound lanes. Three passenger vehicles and a motorcycle were involved. The incident did cover both northbound and southbound sides. Two people on the motorcycle hit the median and were ejected. Both were classified as trauma alerts. All others  involved in the crash denied injury and declined transport to the hospital.

The HCD of PBC’s Trauma Hawk helicopter was launched when units first arrived on scene due to multiple trauma alert patients. Once those patients were initially stabilized and placed in rescue units, crews on scene saw they had unobstructed lanes northbound due to traffic being stopped. It was faster to take the patients by ground vs transferring them to the TraumaHawk which had not yet landed. Both patients were then transported by ground units to a Palm Beach County Trauma Center.

UPDATE 7:30 p.m. — Traffic is flowing again in both directions. Slowly, but it’s moving. This is our last update until we receive specifics about the crash from Florida Highway Patrol.

FDOT has an active alert for both directions right now near Glades, but it’s northbound that is completely shut.
