DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The man arrested by City of Delray Beach Police on Thursday following a SWAT standoff is now facing a homicide charge.

BocaNewsNow.com broke the story of the SWAT standoff as it took place in real-time in the 4200 block of Palm Forest Drive. A huge police presence massed in the area of 3940 Arelia Drive, nearby, as a negotiator attempted to talk Evan Berkowitz from his house. That proved unsuccessful.

“Berkowitz, 56, barricaded himself inside the home,” said an official Delray Beach Police statement issued to BocaNewsNow.com. “The SWAT Team established a secure perimeter and attempted to negotiate with Berkowitz, who later fired multiple gunshots from inside the residence intermittingly throughout the standoff in the direction of officers on scene.”
