FEES, DUES NOT OPTIONAL IN FLORIDA COMMUNITIES.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Just in case you were wondering if you really have to pay your fees and dues in Florida communities, the answer remains “yes.” And if you don’t, you will almost certainly find yourself in the situation that Hollis Chase is in. Boca West is suing him.
According to a complaint obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, The Boca West Master Association filed a lawsuit on March 5, 2026, in Palm Beach County Circuit Court against Chase, seeking to foreclose on his unit at Bridgewood Mid-Rise Condominium I. The dispute centers on a community rule that requires all residents to remain members in good standing with the Boca West Country Club, a mandate the association says Chase has ignored for over a year.
Chase’s problems began in early 2025 when the association first flagged him for being more than 90 days delinquent on his payments to the country club. Following a grievance committee meeting in January 2025, the association began levying a daily fine of $75.00 against his property. Despite multiple demand letters sent to his addresses in Florida and Pennsylvania throughout the year, the association claims Chase failed to settle the debt, leading them to record a formal lien against his home in June 2025.
By the time the lawsuit was filed this week, the association alleged that the unpaid fines surpassed $30,000. In addition to the foreclosure attempt, the association has hit Chase with a breach of contract claim, arguing that he agreed to abide by all governing documents — including the mandatory club membership — when he purchased the unit. The master association isn’t just looking for the back fines; they are asking the court to authorize a sale of the property to cover the debt, along with mounting interest and legal fees.
Chase is already learning that you can’t mess with an HOA, COA, or POA in Florida. The association revoked his access to the automated residents’ gate lane at the community’s entrances. Up next: the possible auction of his home at 1553 Bridgewood Drive.
