DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Delray Beach lawyer is facing driving under the influence charges after a traffic stop in unincorporated Boca Raton late Monday night. Mitchell Harrison Kaufman, 33, was taken into custody by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office near the intersection of Clint Moore Road and Lyons Road. Authorities began investigating after receiving reports of a gray Kia being driven erratically in the area.

According to the arrest report obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, a deputy spotted Kaufman’s vehicle traveling approximately 20 mph below the posted 45 mph speed limit. The officer noted that the car was unable to stay within a single lane and repeatedly crossed over the fog line. Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy reported that Kaufman’s speech was slow and slurred, and he allegedly smelled of an unknown alcoholic beverage. When asked to exit the vehicle, Kaufman reportedly told the deputy he had to urinate and was observed swaying from side to side.  The investigation continued at the scene with a series of roadside sobriety tasks.

Deputies noted that Kaufman struggled with instructions, failed to maintain his balance during the “walk and turn” and “one leg stand” exercises, and missed the tip of his nose during another task. While Kaufman allegedly told investigators he had consumed only one glass of wine earlier that evening, breathalyzer tests performed later at a testing facility reportedly yielded results of .217 and .225 — nearly three times the legal limit in Florida.  Kaufman, a resident of the Bridges community in Delray Beach, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail early Tuesday morning.

He has been charged with DUI with a blood alcohol level of .15 or higher. A court date is pending. Kaufman has entered a plea of “not guilty.”
