CITY OF BOCA RATON SHAKEUP

BY: ANDREW COLTON | Editor and Publisher | BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — City of Boca Raton Police Chief Michelle Miuccio is out and Assistant Chief Liz Roberts is in. Those are two parts of a major shakeup shaking out Thursday in the City of Boca Raton.

According to an email obtained exclusively by BocaNewsNow.com and not released publicly as of 4:40 p.m., City Manager Mark Sohaney announced the changes late Thursday, writing: Chief Michelle Miuccio has served the City for many years with dedication and professionalism. After evaluating the department’s leadership structure, I have determined that a transition in leadership is appropriate at this time.

I am appointing Assistant Chief Liz Roberts as Acting Police Chief. This will allow the City to assess the department’s future leadership needs while maintaining a strong and stable command structure during the transition.”

BocaNewsNow.com has learned that Assistant City Manager Chrissy Gibson is also out. She oversaw communications and related issues. Sohaney wrote that he believes the City of Boca Raton can effectively be managed with two deputy city managers, plus himself. It’s not immediately clear who else is being removed. Sohaney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

We note that these changes initiated by City Manager Sohaney seem to support our frequent reporting that the City of Boca Raton has had a communications problem for quite some time. We have repeatedly written about communication issues involving both Chief Miuccio and Chrissy Gibson. In 2024, we — tongue in cheek, of course — awarded Chief Miuccio the PUTIN award, which we named for “Police Unwilling To Inform.” Not tongue-in-cheek, we have not experienced a police department more unwilling to release public information than the City of Boca Raton Police Department under Chief Miuccio.

As we reported exclusively, the chief was slammed in an employee survey conducted in 2024. And nearly 75-percent of voters on Tuesday voted AGAINST building a new, state of the art police department for the City of Boca Raton — further confirming that Boca Raton has communication and police public image issues that need to be resolved.

UPDATE at 5:20 p.m. The City confirmed the changes and adds that Deputy City Manager Jorge Camejo is also out.
