BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is dead after he was slammed to the ground while walking to the front door of Costco on Congress Avenue.
Maurice Kofman , 87, of Boca Raton, died on Sunday evening at Delray Medical Center. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place around 4:33 p.m. on March 9th at the Costco located at 17800 South Congress Avenue. Kofman was walking northeast toward the store entrance when he was struck by a vehicle.
Police say 54-year-old Michelle Trang Nguyen was behind the wheel of a 2013 Lexus RX 350, traveling southwest through the lot and attempting to make a left turn at the time of the crash. The sheriff’s office says that Nguyen failed to yield the right of way while making her turn, leading the front left bumper of her Lexus to collide with Kofman. The impact knocked the elderly man to the pavement, prompting an emergency response from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
While Nguyen reported no injuries and was wearing her seatbelt, Kofman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. No charges have been filed.
