UPDATE at 9:34 a.m. — All lanes just reopened, according to FDOT.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Florida Turnpike remains completely shut southbound as of 8:12 a.m. Monday. The closure is just south of Lake Worth Road. Everyone is being routed off of the Turnpike at Lake Worth Road.

The incident, first reported around 5:15 a.m., involves a single tractor trailer. The tractor trailer jackknifed causing a major backup. The good news: no one apparently was injured. The bad news: the truck is leaking diesel oil which elevated the situation to a “hazardous materials” incident.

We expected the Turnpike to only be closed briefly, but now three hours into the closure, we’re following and updating as needed. Expect major delays in the area.

Again, all traffic is being pushed off of the Florida Turnpike at Lake Worth Road. We suggest moving over to Lyons Road and taking Lyons south to Boynton Beach Boulevard. You should be able to re-enter the Turnpike at Boynton Beach Blvd.
