BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The City of Boca Raton is launching a national search for a new Police Chief after City Manager Mark Sohaney fired controversial chief Michele Miuccio earlier this month. Assistant Chief Liz Roberts was named “acting chief” after the ousting of Miuccio. But she is apparently up for another position — although it’s unclear where. Here is the official announcement made Tuesday by the City of Boca Raton:
>> The City of Boca Raton is launching a national search for its next Chief of Police, opening a competitive process to identify the leader who will help guide the future of public safety in one of South Florida’s premier communities.
The search comes as Acting Police Chief Liz Roberts prepares for a potential transition after receiving a conditional offer for a new professional opportunity, following more than 20 years of dedicated service to the Boca Raton Police Department. Roberts will continue serving as Acting Chief during this transition and will play an active role in the hiring process, bringing valuable institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and a deep understanding of the Boca Raton community and Police Department. To support department leadership during this time, Captains Seth Dubinsky and Drew Kosova will serve as Acting Assistant Chiefs.
“Acting Chief Liz Roberts has been a steady, trusted, and deeply respected leader for this department and this community,” said City Manager Mark Sohaney. “I am extremely thankful for her leadership during this time and for the more than 20 years she has dedicated to the Boca Raton Police Department. She has served this organization with professionalism, integrity, and commitment, and while we are excited for her as she considers this new opportunity, we are also grateful that she will continue helping us through this transition and play an important role in identifying the department’s next chief.”
The national search presents an opportunity to build on the Boca Raton Police Department’s strong foundation while identifying a visible, collaborative, and service-driven leader who can help advance the City’s vision for public safety and the department’s next chapter, including the future of police facilities and long-range planning efforts.
The City is seeking an experienced, principled, and forward-thinking law enforcement professional with significant command experience, strong executive presence, and the ability to lead complex operations with professionalism, accountability, innovation, transparency, and a strong sense of public trust. The ideal candidate will also be someone who can build meaningful relationships with City leadership, employees, residents, businesses, community partners, the media, and fellow public safety agencies.
“We are at an important moment for our organization and for our city,” said Sohaney. “Boca Raton continues to grow, and this is an opportunity to identify a chief who can lead through that growth, strengthen community trust, support our personnel, and help carry forward our vision for a modern, responsive, and forward-thinking police department. We are looking for a leader who understands the importance of service, community, accountability, and relationships, and who can help guide this department into the future.”
Acting Chief Roberts is grateful for her time leading the department and proud to assist with the process ahead.
“It has been an honor to serve the Boca Raton Police Department and this community,” said Roberts. “I am incredibly proud of this department, the people who serve here, and the work we do every day to protect this city. I am grateful for the opportunities ahead, and I remain committed to helping ensure a strong and thoughtful transition. Boca Raton deserves an outstanding leader, and I look forward to helping support that process.”
The position will be posted from March 24, 2026, through the beginning of April with application reviews starting shortly after.
