A physical therapy group is facing a lawsuit from a Palm Beach County woman who claims she was injured on parallel bars.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County woman is suing an area physical therapy clinic, claiming she fractured a vertebra after unsecured parallel bars tipped over during a therapy session. Louise Maurer just filed the lawsuit against Bend Physical Therapy Inc. in Palm Beach County Circuit Cour.

According to the complaint reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, Maurer was a patient at the facility on Feb. 7, 2025, when staff instructed her to perform an exercise using a set of parallel bars. When she leaned on the bars and placed her weight on them as directed, the bars were not properly secured, became unstable, and tipped over. Maurer fell to the floor and suffered a fractured vertebra, along with other injuries to her back and body.

The lawsuit alleges two counts of negligence against Bend Physical Therapy. The first claims the facility failed to properly inspect, secure, and maintain the parallel bars and failed to warn Maurer of the unsafe condition. The second count alleges corporate negligence — specifically that the clinic failed to adequately hire, train, supervise, and retain staff responsible for patient safety and equipment use.

Maurer is seeking damages for past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, disability, and loss of quality of life. The minimum claim for filing in Palm Beach County Circuit Court is $50,000. She is represented by Stuart Goldenberg of North Palm Beach. Bend Physical Therapy has not yet filed a response in court records. As with all legal proceedings, the complaint is merely an allegation.
